Summer Weather Observations
Train Your Senses
- Sight: We observed the rising and setting of the sun on the horizon, making visual points of reference. I was unable to get any photo's due to my camera battery no longer charging properly.
- Smell: We've notices that the air is stuffy and laced with pollen in the heat of the day.
- Touch: We could feel the heat of the sun on on our skin.
- Hearing: We could hear the wind rustling the nearby trees.
Inside Preparation Work:
We read pages 851-854 in the Handbook of Nature Study.
1. We noticed that the heat of the sun was less intense at sunrise then at noon.
Outdoor Hour Time:
1. We don't have an outdoor thermometer so we took sunrise, noon, and sunset readings from the internet.
2. We got up early to watch the sunrise. We saw the sun rising over our neighbors roof. As the sun set we saw that it sets over the small crop of trees to the north of us. Here's a picture of the sun setting over a local covered bridge.
Follow-Up Activity:
We'll add our sketches later.
Really great observations and I love your responses to the senses questions. The air is "stuffy" when it is hot.
